Cost Optimization Recommendation

Purpose

This page provides a consolidated summary of cost insights derived from various aspects of your Snowflake environment. In some cases, it offers direct recommendations for action; in others, it highlights the most costly objects, allowing you to prioritize your cost optimization efforts effectively.

Understanding the Breakdown

Navigate to the Recommendations page to view a table organized by key cost categories, including:

  • Credits Used by ETL/Data Processing
  • Warehouse Idle Cost
  • Auto-Clustering Cost
  • Cost by Top/Slow Queries
  • Unused Data Pipelines
  • Credits Used by Failed Jobs
  • Storage from Time Travel
  • Storage from Cloned Tables
  • Storage from Unused Tables

Each category is presented with an annualized cost estimate, representing the potential savings opportunity associated with that area. These insights help you focus on the cost drivers with the greatest impact.

Recommendation Page
Note: You may not see all nine categories listed if your account shows no significant cost opportunity in certain areas. Only categories with meaningful insights are shown.
Important: Some cost areas may overlap. For example, a top-cost query may appear in both “Cost by Top Queries” and “Credits Used by Data Processing.” Therefore, it is not recommended to sum the cost estimates across all categories to calculate total potential savings.

Each section can be expanded or collapsed to reveal detailed objects and, in many cases, actionable recommendations to guide your optimization strategy.
